New publication: Starting as an entrepreneur
- July 2019
Entrepreneurship receives a lot of attention in the Netherlands and is increasingly seen as an alternative way out of a benefit situation. Every week hundreds of unemployment benefit recipients tell UWV (Employee Insurance Agency) they are considering to start their own company or to become a freelancer. The Dutch government supports these people through a number of schemes, such as the startersregeling (start-up scheme) for recipients of unemployment benefits.
UWV has asked SEOR and Intelligence Group to perform a study on unemployment benefits recipients starting as an entrepreneur. Who are these entrepreneurs, where do they work and do they still work as an entrepreneur after a few years? How much do these entrepreneurs earn and how often do they return to paid employment or benefits? The most important results are published in UWV Kennisverslag (Dutch).
